I am 19 years old. I was born with quadriplegic cerebral palsy (CP) which affects my whole body. I am unable to speak but I have learned to communicate using my eyes, body, a computer, and communication boards. I give presentations on how we communicate differently to young children in schools. I practice yoga as often as I can even though I need someone to help me practice. I am very fortunate to be an ambassador for the YAMA Foundation (Yoga Arts Meditation Accessible).
I love spending time with my granddad on FaceTime and being with my dad, they are both very funny and know how to make me laugh. My sister and I get along really well, and I miss her a lot now she is away at university for her studies. I like watching films and historical series with my mum and dad. On special occasions, we celebrate and drink champagne together. I love traveling, my favorite destinations are Australia, UK, and Canada. Next year we hope to explore New Zealand. I enjoy going to church to see my friends and really enjoy listening to the choir. Music plays a big part in my life; my favorite artists are Sam Smith and Adele, but my playlists include many different artists from the present and the past.
I, together with my commutation therapist, my personal assistant, and my mum, have developed a ‘well-being and mindfulness’ tool for non-verbal teenagers and young adults with Special Needs. I am excited and looking forward to presenting this project with my mum and communication therapist at the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC) international conference in Australia this July.
